Crowne Plaza Liverpool City Centre bucks downward trend in hotel occupancy
Visitor numbers at the Crowne Plaza hotel in Liverpool City
Centre are soaring while the rest of the country suffers from the
economic slowdown.
Occupancy rates for the first half of the Capital of Culture year
were up 9% compared to 2007, while room revenue rates are ahead by
6.7%.
The increases come at a successful time for the hotel which
celebrated its tenth birthday last month.
Opened by Frankie Vaughn in September 1998, the hotel has been host
to some of the biggest events in Merseyside and has seen a number
of illustrious guests grace its rooms over the years - from
sporting giants to pop stars and TV celebrities.
Stephen Roberts, general manager of the Crowne Plaza Hotel and
Chair of the Liverpool Hoteliers Association commented: "It is
pleasing to see the increase in visitors and that the Capital of
Culture has clearly had a positive effect.
"We have seen a definite boost in the number of tourists
visiting the city to see things like the Tall Ships and the
memorable last voyage of the QE2. The new landing stage and cruise
terminal have also had a great impact on the number of guests
staying at the hotel. We anticipated an increase in demand when
Liverpool ONE opened and this together with next month's MTV
awards have meant that we have been fully booked months in
advance".
The hotel has recently invested over £ 3.5 Million on
refurbishments, updating all 159 bedrooms and giving a complete
facelift given to the ground floor area including the opening of an
exclusive business club lounge - the only one in the city.
In looking forward to 2009 Mr Roberts added:
"We consistently deliver excellent customer service and make
sure we remain the first choice when people are thinking of booking
a hotel in the city for 2008 and beyond."
