The facts speak for themselves: three of the top 20 courses are located here, as are seven of the top 36 courses in the UK and Ireland. What's more, three of England's Golf Coast courses are ranked in the world's top 75.
Royal Liverpool Golf Club
Located in Hoylake on the Wirral Peninsula this historic club is just a short journey from the Crowne Plaza, but well worth the drive. Among the oldest and toughest of the great seaside championship links, the Club will once again host The Open in 2006.
West Lancashire Golf Club
Amongst the ten oldest clubs in the country, and the oldest surviving in Lancashire, this club is said to be a perfect example of seaside golf. A final qualifying course for The Open in 1976, 1983, 1991, and 1998 the course will once again have the honour of hosting a qualifying round in 2006 when The Open returns to the Royal Liverpool.
Wallasey Golf Club
Located on the Wirral Peninsula overlooking Liverpool Bay and the Irish Sea this club was founded in 1891, and is notable as the home of the Stableford system of points scoring, developed by club member Dr Frank Stableford and first used in competition in 1932. The course is described as a true test of golf due in part to the prevailing northwesterly winds and the variety of holes and natural terrain.
Formby Hall Golf Club
A relative newcomer to England's 'golf coast', Formby Hall was spectacularly transformed in the mid-nineties from unused marshland to a picturesque parkland course with a grand colonial style clubhouse, great fairways, manicured greens and attractive views of the distant hills.
