The Crowne Plaza Liverpool celebrates its 10th birthday

Thursday 25th September saw the Crowne Plaza hotel in Liverpool city centre celebrate its tenth birthday.

The hotel, located on Liverpool's famous waterfront was opened by Frankie Vaughn on 25th September 1998. Part of The Centre Island Hotel group, the Crowne Plaza was the second hotel to be acquired by the company and remains a major flagship hotel and the first in the city to proudly include Liverpool in its title.

The hotel has been host to some of the biggest events in Merseyside and has seen a number of illustrious guests grace its rooms from sporting giants, to pop stars and TV celebrities.

Party political conferences, award ceremonies, film sets, radio broadcasting studios; the Crowne Plaza has always been more than just a hotel, becoming an important backdrop to Liverpool's recent cultural life.

Last year the hotel commissioned and installed a major piece of sculpture known as the "Fallen Angel" to commemorate the Capital of Culture year, which has already taken on a monumental status and made press coverage around the world.

Over the past ten years the hotel has invested over £ 3.5 Million on refurbishments, updating all 159 bedrooms and giving a complete facelift to the ground floor area including the opening of an exclusive Club Lounge - the only one in the city.

Stephen Roberts, general manager of the Crowne Plaza Hotel and Chair of the Liverpool hoteliers association commented:

"I have been manager of the Crowne Plaza since July 2000, I am proud to run and represent such a prestigious, warm and welcoming hotel that has earned an international reputation for excellence. We have a great team who have worked tirelessly to deliver the best care and attention to all our guests and show everyone the famous Liverpool welcome".

The Hotel has invited residents from far and wide to cut the giant birthday cake and join in the celebrations this Thursday evening.
