Stephen Roberts, General Manager
Stephen has been the General Manager of the Crowne Plaza
Liverpool city centre for just over 8 years.
What does your job involve?
My role is like that of an orchestral conductor. There are many different jobs in a hotel, and it is important that they all know how and when to do their jobs. My role is to make this happen.
What did you always want to do when you left school?
When I was very young I wanted to be a helicopter pilot. However a school careers advisor told me that hospitality was going to grow rapidly in the future. So I studied hotel management at Polytechnic.
What do you like about your job?
That I have a fantastic team of people who all care about what they do.
Your most embarrassing work related experience?
Opening a bedroom door for a lovely couple at a hotel in London, only to find another couple in a compromising position.
Your most memorable guest, and why?
Liam Gallagher (from the band Oasis) despite the bad boy image he was a really nice customer of the hotel.
What have been the highlights of your career?
Being GM of the Crowne Plaza Liverpool City Centre, Liverpool winning Capital of Culture and picking up an Outstanding Customer Service award in Cannes.
Which hotel (other than your own) do you most admire, and why?
Burj Al Arab, spectacular design, great service. A destination in its own right.
