The month has been celeb and VIP spotting left, right and centre!! We held the Woman of the Year awards a couple of weeks ago and Robin got to meet the film actress Margi Clarke. Frank was next on the list to meet David Essex who was doing a show at the Liverpool Empire. We were changing shift when Jerry Marsden (Ferry Across the Mersey singer) popped in before heading to a memorial service at the Anglican Cathedral, so it was nice that we both got to catch up with him. You will know that we are both avid car fans, and get to see a few nice ones while standing outside the hotel, so it was a lovely surprise when Robin opened the car door and James May from Top Gear got out. He was here as they were making a TV show where they build a Meccano bridge to try and cross the canal - you will have to tune in for the results as we have been sworn to secrecy!!
Every July we have a dedicated week called Staff Appreciation week. During this time the General Manager spoils all the staff, and this year was no different. Each day is themed so this year we started off with Fun at the fair, then it was HOD job swap day, Oscars come to CP Liverpool was on Wednesday, Music Festival day, and then we rounded up the week with Sports day. We had such a ball, especially when Tom Jones and Tina Turner came to serenade us during our BBQ lunch. We think that the star attraction was our Operations Manager Brian Connor performing "I want to break free" on his inflatable guitar during staff karaoke, unfortunately he won't let us put the video on the site!!
We are both looking forward to going to a new Restaurant in Liverpool City Centre with the rest of the Front of House Team for a food taster. The restaurant is called Merchants at 62, so we'll tell you how the opening went next time.
Football season kicks off next weekend, what a busy time for the hotel!! We have seen a few friendly matches over the past couple of weeks. So we will soon be rushed off our feet with the influx of fans to support either the reds or the blues - but which side are you!!
A date for your diary - the Matthew Street Festival is on its way. Some describe the Mathew Street Music Festival as a great symbol of what music means to this city and how we enjoy celebrating it - being it the Merseybeat era to modern icons. As you'll discover, there's plenty of reasons we're the World Capital of Pop. The weekend of 29th/30th/31st August.
We would both like to wish Gemma from reception congratulations. She abseiled down the side of the Liver Building for charity, well done on your fundraising Gemma keep up the good work.
